Officers from Papua New Guinea's Department of Implementation and Rural Development have undertaken specialised training in Brisbane as part of an Australian-backed push to strengthen transparency and accountability in the country's public institutions.
The training is aimed at building officers' skills to support the Bilum Digital Platform, a system designed to make it easier for Papua New Guineans to track how public funds are used and see the benefits they deliver, according to the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby.
The initiative forms part of a broader partnership between Australia and PNG focused on strengthening accountability and building public institutions that are more capable and responsive to citizens' needs.
Officials described the effort as part of a shared commitment to turning common democratic values into stronger systems and improved outcomes for Papua New Guineans, with better public access to information on government spending seen as a key step towards greater institutional trust.
