Prime Minister James Marape is spearheading Papua New Guinea’s advocacy for fair climate action and international recognition of the country’s critical role in safeguarding the world’s rainforests.
With COP30 scheduled to take place in Brazil, Marape called on developed nations to honour their climate finance commitments and provide tangible support for rainforest conservation, stressing that protecting these ecosystems is essential not only for PNG but for the global fight against climate change.
“Papua New Guinea is at the frontline of climate stewardship,” Marape said. “We expect the world to recognise our contribution to the planet’s lungs and to deliver the financial and technical support needed to preserve our rainforests for future generations.”
