Israel Expresses Gratitude to Papua New Guinea for Support Amid Middle East Tensions

Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, James Marape, has received a message of appreciation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, thanking the PNG government and people for their longstanding support of Israel, particularly during ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The message was delivered in person by Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharren Haskel, during a courtesy call at Melanesian House in Waigani on Sunday, 20 October. Haskel conveyed Netanyahu’s warm regards and acknowledged Papua New Guinea’s consistent backing of Israel in international forums and through bilateral cooperation.

Responding to the message, Prime Minister Marape reaffirmed PNG’s enduring friendship with Israel, emphasising shared values of faith, freedom, and mutual respect. He underscored the country’s commitment to supporting Israel while advocating for peaceful resolution, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty.

“Papua New Guinea stands firm in its friendship with Israel. Our nations are bound by common values of faith, freedom, and humanity,” Marape said. “We pray for lasting peace in the Middle East and for the safety of all people affected by conflict.”

The meeting also explored potential avenues for bilateral cooperation, including partnerships in agriculture, technology, and education, reflecting both countries’ interest in strengthening economic and developmental ties.
