Kipo–Saraga Road Phase 2 to begin following groundbreaking ceremony

Roadworks are set to begin on the Kipo section of the Kipo–Saraga Road following an official groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday afternoon, marking Phase 2 of the 1.2-kilometre infrastructure project.

The works will extend towards the Saraga section, which began in March after a ceremony at Ragamuga, Saraga. Hon. Justin Tkatchenko MP described the event as a “heartfelt ceremony,” noting the Kipo community’s acceptance of development and the accompanying resettlement and relocation plan. Families affected by the construction will be compensated and resettled to new subdivisions within the Kipo–Saraga area.

The road project, costing K9.2 million, will link Saraga Road at 6 Mile to East Boroko. Tkatchenko expressed gratitude to NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop and the NCDC Board for their role in delivering the initiative.

“The Kipo–Saraga Road will transform the area, enabling the extension of water, power, and drainage systems, while opening opportunities for business and development for residents and the corporate sector alike,” he said. “It will also improve city commutes and complement other ongoing development work throughout Port Moresby.”

The project reflects broader efforts to upgrade urban infrastructure in the capital, supporting both community growth and economic expansion.
