A moving ceremony marked the groundbreaking of the Kipo–Saraga Road in East Boroko this week, as community elders, many from the Eastern Highlands Province, symbolically handed spades to Hon. Justin Tkatchenko MP and City Manager Frank Ravu.
The gesture represented the elders’ acceptance that development has arrived in Kipo — an area they helped establish more than 50 years ago.
“It was a touching moment,” Tkatchenko said. “These are the founding families of Kipo, and their gesture shows unity and understanding that progress is now here. Development now lies in the hands of NCDC and the city’s leadership — and we will work with our people to ensure it benefits everyone.”
The ceremony underscored the importance of partnership between traditional settlers and city authorities as Port Moresby continues its rapid urban transformation.
