Central Provincial Government clears over K600,000 in outstanding tax liabilities

The Central Provincial Government has settled K603,364 in outstanding Salary and Wages Tax (SWT) liabilities, reaffirming its commitment to tax compliance and good governance.

The payment follows a detailed review and reconciliation exercise carried out with the Internal Revenue Commission’s (IRC) Tax Advising Division, which identified arrears accumulated over previous financial years. The provincial administration has now fully cleared these obligations.

The move highlights the provincial government’s proactive approach to meeting its tax responsibilities and supporting the national government’s revenue collection efforts. It also reflects the strengthening partnership between the IRC and provincial administrations to enhance tax compliance and financial governance at the subnational level.

The IRC commended the Central Provincial Government for setting a positive example, noting that the settlement reinforces the broader goals of transparency, accountability, and compliance across all levels of government.

Officials say the milestone marks an important step in building trust and promoting responsible financial management within Papua New Guinea’s provincial administrations.
