The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) and the nation mourn the loss of Mr Michael Bongoro, Acting Deputy Managing Director of CEPA, who passed away on 31 July 2025.
Hailing from Simbu Province, Mr Bongoro was a respected leader in environmental governance, known for his steadfast dedication to sustainable development and conservation efforts across Papua New Guinea.
During his distinguished career, Mr Bongoro played a crucial role in shaping national environmental policies and strengthening institutional frameworks. He was also a prominent advocate for PNG on the regional and global stage, contributing significantly to climate and conservation dialogues.
Colleagues remember Mr Bongoro as a professional of integrity and humility, whose commitment helped safeguard the country’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage.
His sudden death has left a significant void within CEPA and the wider environmental community, as well as among the people of Simbu Province, who took pride in his achievements.
The Office of the Minister, Hon. Simo Kilepa, extended condolences to Mr Bongoro’s family, friends, and colleagues, acknowledging his immense contribution to PNG’s environmental sector.
