Papua New Guinean scientist Melissa Lois Riven has been awarded a 2025 Chevening Scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Melissa, passionate about improving public health and tackling infectious diseases, plans to use the skills and knowledge gained through the scholarship to strengthen PNG’s health systems and research capacity.
“Your passion for making a difference in your country will be your greatest advantage. Take that leap of faith and always be confident in yourself,” Melissa said, encouraging aspiring Chevening scholars.
The Chevening Scholarship Programme, funded by the UK Government, provides outstanding emerging leaders with the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom and contribute to their home countries upon graduation. Applications for the 2026–2027 cohort are now open.
