Central Province governor Rufina Peter has welcomed the takeover of Stop and Shop by Taylor Pacific Limited, saying it will open new opportunities for the province’s fresh food and vegetable farmers.
“The decision by Taylor Pacific Limited will further strengthen the public–private partnership between the Central provincial government and Taylor Pacific, as we already have an MOU for poultry development in the Vanapa area,” Peter said.
She also thanked CPL Group for its long-standing support for local growers during its years of operation in the province.
John Taylor, managing director of Taylor Pacific, said the acquisition would expand market access for Central Province farmers to Australia and other countries via Hugo Canning exports.
“It’s an exciting future. We look forward to continuing to work with farmers to produce the best fresh, organic produce for Australian and Pacific markets,” he said.
Central is the first provincial government to partner with Taylor Pacific. Taylor thanked Peter for “being the first to partner with us as we grow in Papua New Guinea”, adding that the deal strengthens the country’s agricultural value chain, improves market access and raises product quality standards.
