PAU Intern Students Farewelled After Six Weeks of Hands-On Learning

Seven third-year students from Pacific Adventist University (PAU) were officially farewelled today after completing a six-week internship program with the department, marking a significant step in their journey toward professional careers.

The students were presented with certificates during a small but meaningful gathering that acknowledged their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the department throughout their on-the-job training. The ceremony celebrated both their achievements and the department’s continued support for youth development and workforce readiness.

Speaking on behalf of Secretary Mr. Jerry Ubase, Deputy Secretary Mr. Warren Marape congratulated the interns and commended them for their commitment during the training period. He urged them to remain focused in their final year of study and beyond.

“This is just the beginning,” Mr. Marape said. “Keep building on what you’ve learned here and carry it with you into the workforce. What you’ve experienced during this internship will serve as a strong foundation for your future.”

During their six-week placement, the students were immersed in various departmental programs, gaining exposure to the daily workings of public service and policy implementation. Their activities included supporting staff with administrative tasks, participating in planning meetings, and engaging in policy development discussions.

Assistant Director for Informal Economy, Ms. Cecelia Wrondimi, highlighted the practical learning aspect of the internship, noting how students were able to apply classroom theory to real-world government operations.

“They had the chance to see how things work on the ground,” Ms. Wrondimi said. “This kind of experience is invaluable for students who are preparing to enter the workforce.”

Mr. Brian Kunai, Assistant Director for Policy Advice and Development, added that the interns played an active role during their time with the department, assisting officers and participating meaningfully in workshops and departmental engagements.

Director for Human Resource Management and Compliance, Mr. John Limbao, also addressed the students, encouraging them to take advantage of employment opportunities that may arise after graduation and to continue building their capacity as future professionals.

Representing her fellow interns, Miss Primrose Mukwesipu expressed gratitude to the department, especially Secretary Ubase and the team, for their guidance and support.

“We’ve learned so much and are grateful for the opportunity,” she said. “This experience has given us a clearer picture of the workplace and how we can contribute after graduation.”

The internship program is part of the department’s broader commitment to youth development, offering practical experience to students as they prepare to transition from university to full-time employment. By providing such opportunities, the department hopes to nurture a new generation of competent and confident public servants ready to support national development.
