Papua New Guinea Commemorates 44th Remembrance Day with Solemn Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Following the moving address by His Excellency, Acting Governor-General Hon. Job Pomat, Papua New Guinea marked the 44th Remembrance Day with a dignified and solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honour the memory and sacrifice of the nation’s fallen heroes.

The ceremony commenced with the official procession, led by His Excellency, who was joined by key national leaders and representatives from across government and the international community. Among those in attendance were Members of Parliament, the Secretary of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, the Commissioner of the Correctional Service, the Commander of the NCD/Central Division, the Acting Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary for the Department of Personnel Management, the Chief Secretary to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

As each dignitary stepped forward to lay their wreath, a sense of solemn respect and national pride filled the air. The act of laying wreaths served as a symbolic gesture of remembrance, gratitude, and unity, honouring the courage and service of Papua New Guinean servicemen and women who gave their lives in times of war and conflict.

The Remembrance Day observance is a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of sacrifice made by countless Papua New Guineans, and it reinforces the importance of preserving peace, defending sovereignty, and standing in solidarity as a nation.

Lest we forget.
