Port Moresby, Monday, 10 March 2025 — Acting Chief Secretary to Government, Ivan Pomaleu, has praised the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) for being the first national agency to respond to his call for collaboration in the Special Audit of the Connect PNG Infrastructure Programme.
The call for collaboration was made during the signing of contractual agreements on 25 February between the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, international auditing firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and Brisbane-based Norths Projects Ltd, a specialist consultancy in construction and infrastructure development.
The Special Audit aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and the proper use of public funds within the Connect PNG programme—a critical national infrastructure initiative.
The involvement of the RPNGC is pivotal, providing essential security to auditors, engineers, and officials during the audit process. Their responsibilities include protecting personnel, preventing tampering or interference with audit activities, maintaining public order, enforcing compliance with regulations, deterring corruption and fraud, and safeguarding infrastructure assets.
Acting Chief Secretary Pomaleu highlighted that the inclusion of the RPNGC in the National Special Audit Team reinforces public confidence that the audit will be conducted fairly, transparently, and effectively.
“The participation of the RPNGC ensures safety, compliance, and integrity throughout the audit process, contributing to good governance and accountability in our nation’s infrastructure development,” he stated.
