A two-day public consultation workshop on Papua New Guinea's proposed Competition and Consumer Protection (CCP) Bill 2026 concluded in Lae, Morobe Province, on Thursday, bringing together business representatives, government stakeholders, agencies and members of the public for the Momase leg of the nationwide consultation process.
Participants used the workshop to raise concerns and offer feedback on current issues facing consumers and businesses, as well as views on what should be addressed under the proposed consumer and competition laws. Organisers said all comments and suggestions gathered during the two days would be considered as the draft Bill is further developed.
The consultation team will now move to the Highlands region, with the next leg scheduled for 29–30 September at the Highlander Hotel in Mt Hagen. Business houses, consumers, government agencies, stakeholders and members of the public in the Highlands are being encouraged to attend and contribute their views.
The CCP Bill forms part of a broader effort by the PNG government to modernise the country's competition and consumer protection framework, with the rolling series of regional consultations designed to ensure the legislation reflects input from across the country before it is finalised.
