Members of the Ialibu Sister Association in Moresby South have received a significant boost to their small to medium enterprise (SME) activities, following financial assistance from local MP Hon. Justin Tkatchenko and the Moresby South Office.
Minister Tkatchenko presented the association with K50,000 on Friday, praising the women for their dedication and initiative. “Today is about showing respect to our ladies, who work hard and take positive action for themselves and their community,” he said. “These funds will support their SMEs, education, and training, and can serve as an example for other women’s groups across Moresby South. It’s about helping you help yourself — you make it happen, and I’ll back you up.”
Tkatchenko highlighted the women’s commitment to working without complaint or seeking handouts, noting that their self-organisation and persistence attracted support. “These ladies have shown Moresby South that they are dedicated, organised, and committed to partnership for the benefit of their families and community,” he added.
Association president Sherrie Rara expressed gratitude, noting that the support rewards two years of hard work since the association’s establishment in 2023. “This assistance will allow us to participate in women in business events, including selling our products at the APEC Haus,” she said. “We pray for Minister Tkatchenko’s long life and protection in his responsibilities, especially when he travels internationally.”
In a gesture of appreciation, the women presented the minister with a cassowary and a cuscus, which he intends to donate to the Adventure Park.
