St John Ambulance and PNG Fire Service Launch Shared Emergency Dispatch System

Port Moresby, June 2025 — In a significant step towards improving emergency coordination in Papua New Guinea, the National St John Ambulance Service and the Papua New Guinea Fire Service have officially adopted a shared Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) platform.

The transition to the Responder.One CAD system marks the first time the two emergency services are digitally linked, allowing real-time coordination of resources and information during emergency responses.

As part of the system rollout, the St John Ambulance Operations Centre team delivered tailored training to PNG Fire Service personnel earlier this week to support the implementation.

“This change strengthens interagency communication and ensures faster, safer, and more efficient emergency responses,” a statement from St John Ambulance noted.

The benefits of the integrated CAD platform include:

  • Real-time sharing of emergency incident information;

  • Coordinated deployment of ambulance and fire teams;

  • Improved decision-making for dispatching the nearest and best-equipped units;

  • Enhanced safety for both first responders and the public.

St John Ambulance described the development as a major milestone in the long-term goal of building a unified and responsive emergency system in PNG.

The integration follows similar efforts around the world to link ambulance, fire, and police operations through centralized digital platforms, reducing delays and improving outcomes during critical incidents.

Officials expect the new system to streamline coordination across the National Capital District and potentially expand into other regions in the future.
