Alotau, June 15, 2025 — Hon. Ricky Morris, Member of Parliament for Alotau and Chairman of the Alotau District Development Authority, has expressed deep sorrow and strong condemnation following a brutal attack by criminal elements in the North Coast area of Alotau. The violent incident tragically claimed the life of a Grade 3 student and left his uncle critically injured, currently receiving treatment at Alotau General Hospital.

Condolences to the Bereaved Family

Hon. Morris extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, emphasizing the community’s collective grief. “This act of violence is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said, urging everyone to stand united against lawlessness.

Community Demands Action

The MP acknowledged the growing frustration among Alotau residents who have endured persistent criminal disruptions and highway hold-ups. “The people of Alotau have had enough of this ongoing lawlessness. I want to make it absolutely clear that we will not tolerate criminal behavior in our district any longer,” Morris stated firmly.

Commitment to Restore Peace and Order

In response, Hon. Morris revealed ongoing discussions with the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) to intensify police operations in the region. A coordinated joint operation is set to be launched with full backing from the Alotau District Development Authority, including logistical and financial support.

“We are committed to ensuring that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice under the full force of the law,” the MP declared.

A Message to the Community and Offenders

Addressing families and communities living in fear, Hon. Morris pledged swift action to bring perpetrators to account. “I hear your cries, and we will ensure justice for this attack and all other incidents that have harmed our people.”

To those involved in the criminal acts, he issued a stern warning: “You are urged to stop your malicious, greedy, inhuman, and illegal activities. The government will not take this lightly. We will restore order and return safety to our people.”
