Port Moresby, June 6, 2025 – The management team of Century Peak Holdings Limited Corporation, a Filipino multi-billion kina company, visited Papua New Guinea this week to explore key investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
Ambitious Plans for Agriculture, Property, Manufacturing, and Mining
Century Peak Holdings aims to establish a 10,000-hectare mechanized rice farm, invest in property development within the Paga Hill Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and expand into PNG’s manufacturing and mining sectors. The company already owns and operates a nickel mine in the Philippines.
The corporation comprises five subsidiaries, including Century Peak Corporation, Century Peak Mineral Development Corporation, Century Peak Cement Manufacturing Corporation, Century Sidewide Smelting Incorporated, and Century Hua Guang Smelting Incorporated. These subsidiaries will form the foundation of the company’s expansion into PNG.
Establishing Presence and Building Partnerships
Century Peak has established a country office in PNG and completed company registration, signaling its commitment to long-term operations in the country.
This week, representatives met with Hon. Richard Maru, Minister for International Trade and Investment, and Mr. Jerry Garry, Managing Director of the Mineral Resources Authority, to discuss opportunities within PNG’s mining industry.
Progress on the Central Rice Special Economic Zone
The company is close to securing 10,000 hectares at Brown River in Central Province to launch PNG’s first large-scale mechanized commercial rice farm.
Minister Maru highlighted ongoing challenges with land title processing: “The main delay has been the slow progress by the Department of Lands and Physical Planning in helping landowners obtain State title over their land. This is necessary for arranging a long-term lease and entering a project agreement beneficial to the State, Central Provincial Government, and landowners.”
Minister Maru confirmed he has reached out to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, Hon. John Rosso, to expedite the resolution of these land issues.
“We aim to start the rice farm before September 16. This initiative will form the Central Rice Special Economic Zone and represents a significant milestone for PNG’s agriculture sector,” Minister Maru added.
